Aktuelle Herausforderungen beim Bauen im Bestand

TCE-Prolog beim Internationalen Holzbau Forum 2026 in Innsbruck

Current challenges in renovating existing buildings

TCE Prologue at the International Timber Construction Forum 2026 in Innsbruck

Timber Construction Europe invites you to the ‘Renovating Existing Buildings’ Prologue at the International Timber Construction Forum 2026 in Innsbruck, Austria. On Wednesday, 2 December 2026, academics and practitioners from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will give presentations on the challenges of renovating existing buildings. TCE President Peter Aicher will welcome the participants to open the event. The prologue will be moderated by Wolfgang Mair, Deputy Secretary-General of Timber Construction Europe.

The key issues in current and future construction – relating to climate protection, building culture and housing needs – are not decided in new-build projects, but in how we deal with existing buildings. For planners, this is a challenge and a cross-disciplinary task that requires structural engineering knowledge, practical construction experience and design expertise. It also requires knowledge of architectural history, building law and current funding schemes in the respective countries.

TCE Prologue on Wednesday, 2 December 2026 from 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm

The speakers and their topics

  • Continuing to build within the existing building stock – perspectives from Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Dr Julia Selberherr, Wüest Partner, Zurich (CH)
